Hello, hello! I hope you’re all having a wonderful Saturday! We are slowly and steadily approaching the end of April and the summer not only feels, but also is, so much closer. Even if the weather in London keeps on being moody at times (thankfully no rain!), many brands started to release their summer collections or give us sneak peaks into them, to only make us long for the sun more! Trends show that it’s all about a glowing bronzed complexion this year and that’s what the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow, aims at providing too!
If you’ve read my previous Charlotte Tilbury posts (for example here and here), you probably know I’m a big fan of the brand, even if I don’t support the over the top marketing at times. Most of Charlotte’s products are of superb quality. When it comes to eyes and cheeks powder products, I think that they are brightening enough anyway, and that’s one of the reasons why I love wearing them. So, when I saw that Charlotte created a brand new Instant Look in a Palette specifically targeted to add glow on the skin in rose gold tones, I nearly jumped from excitement.
To add to that, when I swatched it in the store, I was so happy to see that the powders are buttery soft and the colour payoff is really good. Another high quality product by the brand, the limited edition Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow offers what it says: a glowing complexion.
Let’s have a quick look now at what makes the Charlotte Tilbury Instand Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow special (taken from the official CT website):
“WHAT MAKES INSTANT LOOK IN A PALETTE MAGIC:
• Get an instantly GLOWING, gorgeous makeup look in 5 minutes!
• This makeup palette is easy to use, whether you are a complete beginner or makeup pro!
• Inspired by Poppy Delevingne’s wedding makeup, this palette is full of rose-gold, bronze tones for dreamy, ethereal perfection, whether you are a blushing bride or wedding guest!
• HD ready formulas mean you look gorgeous and glowing in photographs as well as real-life!
• Ideal if you want flattering, bronzed, radiant makeup that is perfect for any occasion.”
Broadly, I agree with all of the statements quoted above. However, personally, the fact that this palette was inspired by Poppy Delavigne’s wedding make-up doesn’t mean that much, although it’s useful to know that this palette would be suitable for wedding make-up. This also shouts to me that it’s going to be a relatively soft, romantic palette. And that’s exactly what it is on my NC30 complexion.
As with all other Instant Look in a Palette products previously released (see my review of Seductive Beauty here), the new Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow is truly easy to use. The concept is the same, seeing as you have all of your face products in there: bronzer, highlighter, two blushes (one for the back of your cheek bones-swish- and one for the top of your cheek bones-pop) and three eyeshadows (two shimmers, one matte).
This palette is also very portable, thin and lightweight so you can have it with you when you’re on the go. No brushes are provided, as with all CT Instant palettes before, but that’s not a minus in my view. I was indeed able to create a look in five minutes using this palette. Big thumbs up for it practicality!
As far the actual shades are concerned, I’m heads over heels with the cheek shades but feel that something is missing from the eyeshadows this time. Don’t get me wrong, all shades are beautiful, blend very easily and provide enough definition. However, I feel that much as the brighten and enhance shades are beautiful and the smoke shade is a high quality matte, all combined together don’t give me this “something” that I’m looking for. Here go the swatches:
These are the cheek shades and from left to right you have: Bronze, Highlight, Swish (bronze blush) and horizontally you see the Pop shade (pink blush).
And here go the eyeshadow swatches. From left to right you have the highlight shade (pale pink shimmer), the enhance shade (a GORGEOUS rose gold) and the smoke shade (a warm matte brown). As mentioned before, I cant stress enough how good the quality is. All shades last well, blend well and combine well to give you a sun kissed look.
Charlotte claims that’s a palette that’s flattering for all skin tones, I disagree. I think that’s a good palette from light to medium, even tan skin tones but I bet that the 49GBP investment might seem too much to deeper skin tones, as this would be way too soft for them.
I have two looks to show you today, a soft and a more intense one. Let’s start with the first one.
You can see that for my skintone as is now, I look sun kissed and defined enough. I love this look for everyday and the cheek products are really good. I’m not sure the bronzer will work when I have a tan, but that remains to be seen. On my lips I have the Stoned Rose Charlotte Tilbury lipstick which complements the look nicely and my foundation is the Clinique BIY Pigment (review of all CT lipsticks here and of the Clinique foundation here). Here’s a closer look to the eyes:
I used the highlight shade in my inner corner, the enhance shade in the middle of the eyelid and on the crease and the smoke shade in the outer corner. Unfortunately, the definition was barely there for me, it’s a super soft look. I used my trusted Marc Jacobs Highliner (review here) to line my eyes and give more definition after smudging it a bit. I then went on to create a bolder look, using a different technique:
Once again, you can see the overall result is nice and bronze. Great for everyday and beautiful for an event. By the way, any glow in this photo is thanks to the new Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Touch Foundation foundation. Let’s have a closer look at the eyes now:
For this eyelook I used the smoke shade all over the lid and the enhance shade in the middle of the lid and the crease. I used the highlight shade in the inner corner. I hope you can see that this is more bronze – brown than rose gold and again, I feel that this is not intense enough. The sunlight makes it look softer, but even indoors the effect was similar.
All in all, I really like the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow for its quality and ease of use. It’s a great product to pop in your bag and trust that’ll give you a beautiful, soft, sunkissed look. For the fairer of you, I’m sure you can get enough definition from this palette. For those that are similarly olive in skintone to me, expect a soft eye look but you’ll love the cheek shades, I promise. If you can justify the price point for a softer face palette, go for it, you’ll be happy. As for those who have darker skin tones, please try before you buy! I suspect it will be no make-up, make-up for you.
The Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette, Beauty Glow retails for 49GBP and you can purchase it online here, or at your local CT counter.
Are you eyeing this palette? Let me know your thoughts and those of you with a fairer/ darker skintone, please comment and let other readers know how you enjoy the intesity of this new Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette.
Thanks for reading my beauties and I’ll see you again soon!
