Because I definitely do! And it’s a crush that has lasted for a good two months now, since I got my hands on the newly launched Crushed Lip Color! And I don’t think it’s gonna go anywhere anytime soon – you see, I’ve been using these babies non-stop! It’s true that I’ve loved Bobbi Brown lipsticks for a long time now and when they announced the launch of a new line, I was more than excited! I was curious to see, however, if they’d deliver on the high pigment with one swipe promise. And… they do. They definitely do!
the packaging and shades
The Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color is housed in a black plastic tube which feels high quality. The approximate colour of the lipstick is depicted in the band in the middle of the tube. I find this really cute, especially because the same colour continues when you open the lipstick. It’s very pretty and feels modern, despite it being a fairly simple touch.
There are currently 20 shades and I have 7 to show you (I managed to hold myself after a point!! We can all laugh here of course! 😂). The shades are varied enough but I’m not sure they cover a market niche. There are more plums, reds and pinks and I hope they later launch some more bronzes, browns and beiges as it feels that the line needs them in order to be more complete. For now, I’m happy though because my wallet needs to recover in the meantime 😂.
the consistency and promises
Bobbi Brown claims that the Crushed Lip Color delivers as follows:
“The look of a lipstick meets the feel of a balm for our most wearable lip yet. Loaded with crushed pigments and lip-loving ingredients, it’s the ultimate swipe and go formula.” -> A lipstick that gives lips full pigment in one swipe? Sounds amazing right? And I find that one swipe is enough for me. With two swipes I get intense pigment, which I like but one swipe is enough for a day time look. Saying that, I can get the same with other lipsticks I have (Nars I’m looking at you…), so it isn’t something we cannot get with other brands.
The lip loving pigments are there too. These lipsticks do not moisturise my lips but seeing as the effect is semi matte, I can happily say that they don’t dry my lips out at all as other matte lipsticks do. They are way more comfortable that the Art Stick Liquid Lips (reviewed here), despite the fact that the second has mint oil as an ingredient.
“Rich in Vitamins E and C and beeswax, the balmy formula glides on comfortably with a satin matte finish that leaves lips hydrated and kissably soft. Plus, it won’t feather or fade for crush-worthy colour that lasts all day.” -> You can definitely feel the beeswax in the formula, Crushed Lip Color is a very waxy lipstick that won’t feel super soft. In this aspect, it resembles a lip balm but it’s less emollient. The colour does last well on me and it leaves a stain after lunch, so I only need to reapply once during the working day.
shades i picked and swatches
I bought those in late September when we were in Greece and now I look at the photos and getting nostalgic… In any case, the shades above are the ones I initially picked and since then I went back and got another two. Here go the swatches:
From top to bottom we have only one swipe of Watermelon, Cabana, Babe, Lilac, Bare, Cherry, Baby and Cranberry. I also have some lip swatches for you:
And you have seen me wearing Bare in my look here. Babe and Baby look similar but, Baby is paler and more of a smokey-eye-appropriate lip for me. I only wear it when I want a pinky nude and it’s great. My complexion is tanned though, so if you’re fairer you’ll love the shade even more! It’s a lively candy floss pink – so girly! I’ll post a look wearing it soon, so I can show you, but I’ve got some pictures on Instagram you can check out in the meantime.
If you want to try a semi matte formula and you love plums, pinks and reds, you will enjoy the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color. Is it something you necessarily need to have? Not really. Is it a special formula? Yes, for a matte lipstick it’s the most comfortable formula I’ve so far tried (bear in mind, I have super dry lips all year round). I often reach for it when I want a reliable lipstick that will survive the working day, feel comfortable and won’t dry my lips out despite its longevity.
You can discover more about this £24 lipstick here.
Let me know if you’ve tried the Crushed Lip Color? Thoughts?
Have a great week everyone and I’ll speak to you soon!
