Nars Fall 2017 Steel the Show Collection: Review, swatches and FOTD!

Hello there beautiful *waves from Greece*! Hope the first week of September has been amazing for you. As we’re now solidly approaching autumn, I thought I’d stick to reviewing those fall collections which tempted me. Nars is one of these brands which always surprises me pleasantly with their limited edition collections, as it’s real evidence that quantity isn’t everything. The Nars Fall 2017 collection, in particular, consists of only six items, all of them top quality though. Let’s have a look at the swatches and my picks.

To start with, there are three eye pencils in the collection: a brown (Sorrento), a marine blue (Naxos) and a golden beige (Altiplano). These are exceptionally soft and they glide onto the eyelids. As with all Nars Kohliners, they are designed to be smudged, so they don’t last all that well inside the waterline. They provide an excellent base for eyeshadow though and they are generally not easy to move when they set. I have two of the shades to show you:

And close up.

Apologies that Altiplano is a bit broken, it happened as I opened it. My fault though, the packaging of these is sturdy.

In addition, there are two dual intensity eyeshadows available. Titania, a steel grey, and Hydra, a marine green-blue. These are both shimmery. I couldn’t resist Hydra. It’s soft on my lids but creates a wonderful duo with Naxos Kohline once layered on top. The longevity of Hydra is exceptional, especially on top of primer. Won’t fade until removed.

Hydra – named after a Greek island, it’s so close to the colour of the sea

Lets have a look at the swatches of the entire collection now:

How amazing is it that Nars has named their Fall shades after what reminds us of the summer gone by… And yes, Titania’s grey is such an urban colour, but the rest? Sea, sun, sand … that’s where the inspiration comes from. The Mediterranean Fall where grey skies become blue and where the sea always sparkles, even when it’s windy. Naxos and Hydra are two of my most favourite Greek islands, l’ll post pictures at the end of this post. Here’s me wearing them on my lids. In the inner corner I have a bit of Altiplano (haven’t been! Anyone’s been there?)

FOTD – wearing Nars Hydra, Naxos and Altiplano

You know I love a soft, daytime smokey eye… and that’s it really. Altiplano is not showing much on me, which makes it perfect for a highlight or an all over the lid base. These three products are stunning. My lipstick is from the Urban Decay Naked Heat Collection which I’ve reviewed here. It’s a metallic I love.

You can check out the Nars Fall 2017 Collection here. I’m not going to say these aren’t dupable shades. They totally are, I recall Mac having similar shades as do other brands. However, I appreciate it’s not a massive collection and one that looks back to the summer rather than being all dark and brown. This is fresh, Nars!

Before I say see you later, here go Hydra and Naxos. I’ve been to both of these places and I love them both. Hydra is very cosmopolitan, small and elegant. Naxos is very historic, you can really feel eternity looking out in the sea and ancient ruins!

And that’s Naxos – the temple of Apollo next to the Aegean Sea, overlooking Naxos town.

Eye candy 😊. As I said, interesting places to get inspiration from for Fall 2017.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Don’t you like more original collections or when a brand deviates from the norm? It’s fun sometimes.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and I’ll speak to you soon!

Hugs!

Eleni

  1. Beautiful shades you got here and what an amazing eye makeup look you created. I love it when brands pay special attention to the names of the products and even though I love greek islands, I haven’t travelled to Naxos nor Hydra! Have a lovely week Eleni xx
