Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer: Better than sleep?

Forgive me, Bobbi Brown, but I can’t buy into that marketing slogan! I just wouldn’t exchange my soft bed, fluffy covers and eight hour sleep for any make-up product. But I love your concealer, so we can still be friends. The new Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer is indeed fantastic! I tested this product extensively before writing this post, so that I’d be as sure as I can ever be about a concealer. Well, it grew on me more and more, day after day.

Historically, I somehow never got on with the Bobbi Brown correctors and concealers. I get it why it’s the brand’s “secret of the universe” because the colour correcting corrector with the yellow-toned concealer on top provide excellent coverage. However, they always creased on me and no matter how hard I tried to make them work, they’d just look cakey and generously make me look ten years older. As such, you can guess why I was hesitant to try another Bobbi Brown concealer after my experience with the brand’s signature product.

The Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer though is an entirely different story! In consistency, it’s very similar to the Bobbi’s signature concealers, only this one is more emollient and somehow has more “stretch” to it. It’s a thick product, no doubt, but one that works with the warmth of your fingers to melt into the skin.

A closer look at the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer

Have a look at the applicator. Expect no flexibility or softness. It’s a sponge applicator which doesn’t grab a great deal of product. In my view, that’s great because what it grabs is just right for both of my under eye areas. I wouldn’t really need more because with this concealer, less is more. It’s very high coverage.

Unlike other BB concealers, the Instant Full Cover Concealer can be used on spots and other imperfections because it’s oil free. I find that it adds some luminosity underneath my eyes (it’s creamy and sets to a luminous, creamy finish), so I don’t like using it with matte foundations on spots. But with a more luminous foundation, it can work quite well.

The sponge applicator grabs just enough product, which is perfect!

One of the key selling points of this concealer is that you don’t need to powder it. I think a light dusting of powder helps it last longer. But you shouldn’t need a lot of powder at all. Before I talk you through how I like using it, let’s have a look at some swatches:

As is always the case with Bobbi Brown Foundations and concealers, there is a good selection of shades to choose from. The Instant Full Cover Concealer comes in 15 whopping shades and you can see five medium toned ones in the swatches above. From left to right we have: Natural, Warm Natural, Natural Tan, Honey and Warm Honey. My go-to shade is Natural but now I’m tanned, so the right shade is Honey.

I have a very light layer of tinted moisturiser and the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer in my under eye area. Shade-wise, I don’t use Honey to cover any spots as it’s a tad lighter than the rest of my skin, but once the tan starts to fade it’ll be perfect for that too. In the photo above, I haven’t used any powder either.

I have to be honest with you; all concealers crease at least a bit on me. And there are days when the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer creases too. But it’s the type of creasing I’m ok with, as it’s only a bit and it’s easy to correct. I’ve tried applying the product with fingers, brush and a combination of both and that’s how I prefer to use it:

I place the majority of the product close to and underneath my inner eye corner. I pat it in place very gently using the Bobbi Brown concealer brush (I’m addicted to that brush). Then I softly drag the edges of the product and blend them out towards the rest of my under eye area. What’s left on the brush woks wonders on the outer corner. Then I wait for five minutes and if it creases in my fine lines I blend again with the brush. I pat the edges with my fingers and put a very light dusting of powder, just in my inner eye corner.

This, 90% of the time, lasts for 8-9 hours on me. No creasing, no fading. Just perfect for the working day. Make sure you moisturise well underneath the concealer if you’re dry, but you should ensure your moisturiser is well absorbed before concealer application, for more longevity.

All in all, I’ve managed to make this product work for me and so far it’s my favourite concealer. I’ll repurchase if I ran out and I’ve not repurchased a concealer so far (not one for under eyes). Right now, I prefer it to my Nars concealers. You can check it out in the Bobbi Brown website here. It costs £23 for 6ML, which is pricey but, in my view, worth it.

Have you tried any Bobbi Brown concealer?

Hope you have a wonderful week and I’ll speak to you soon!

I am a huge (huge!) fan of the BB corrector, so I have this one on my to try list. I am a little disappointed in the finish as you decribe it though, I had wished for a matte one as it is oilfree.

It’s definitely not a flat matte, like the Nars Complete Concealer. It’s creamy so there’s a bit of luminosity there. However, it’s ok for spot concealing. If you liked the old finish you will probably like this one too. X

Great review! I haven’t tried this concealer yet, but would definitely need to since it seems like a great substitute to the nars one x

I tried their concealers and correctors too but they just didn’t work for me either, it looked quite cakey! I don’t think I’ve seen this one around before but it does sound good and they seem to do a really good shade range too for medium skintones xx

Thanks Kim, I’m happy this product works for me. I’ve been on the look out for a good concealer since I can remember doing makeup 😂

I have seen mixed reviews on this concealer so I don’t think I will be trying it any time soon. I also never buy high end concealers, for some reason it’s the one makeup product that I am very hesitant to spend a lot of money on.

A good concealer is always a struggle to find and I am so glad this one works for you. I am not using any at the moment since it’s too hot to use so many products on my face but I will need a new one for fall plus a new foundation. I have been reading reviews on both products like crazy and taking notes 🙂

How would you compare this to NARS RCC? I know I’m always talking about it, but it’s just because I looove it and I’m too scared to try anything else. 😀 This seems similar to it though!
