Where’s the weekend gone? Sigh… I hope you’ve had an amazing time and you’re ready for the new week! I’m sort of ready, but I think I’m in need of another holiday already! Busy times ahead you see and just the thought of it makes me shiver 😂! On a more positive note, let’s talk about LIPSTICK!! Have you seen the new matte lipsticks by Nars? And how about the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo? I checked both of them out last week when I went shopping and thought I’d make a swatch post for you, in case you’re eyeing something. So, here goes a brief introduction to the muchly awaited Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment and my first impressions on the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo.
NARS POWERMATTE LIP PIGMENT – SWATCHES AND THOUGHTS
Nars has been innovating so much when it comes to lipstick! Alongside their permanent Audacious lipsticks (which I love), they’ve come up with lipsticks in the form of a pen with both matte, gloss and satin finishes as well as their famous Velvet Lip Glides which are so comfortable to wear (reviewed here)! Still, Francois Nars is so restless that he created the Powermatte Lip Pigment which is exactly what the name suggests: a matte liquid lipstick with extreme colour pay off.
Matte and intense colour pay off rang an alarm bell in my head… how drying is this going to be? Nars promises that the Powermatte Lip Pigment is weightless and nourishing on the lips. It’s not drying at all; on the contrary, it’s a long-lasting formulation which keeps lips hydrated.
To start with, let’s have a look at the shades. I swatched 13 out of the 20 shades available and I can say that there are more reds and pinks/plums this time:
From left to right we have: Save the Queen, American Woman, Low Rider, Get It On and London Calling. The first dark red (horizontally) is Star Woman, whereas the brighter red underneath is Just Push Play.
One again, from left to right we have: Rock with you (wow, this dark plum, right??!), Don’t Stop, Light My Fire, Get Up Stand Up, Walk This Way and that gorgeous dark pink-berry shade, horizontally swatched, is Under My Thumb.
I tried Save the Queen on and, as far as I’m concerned, the Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment definitely delivers on fantastic colour pay off, with only one swipe. It feels so incredibly lightweight, you wouldn’t know you had lipstick on. And it’s definitely long lasting. You see, I went to Nars after work (around 6.30pm) and the Nars artist applied the Powermatte Lip Pigment on my lips around 7pm. We then went to the cinema and had I not bitten my lips in the meantime (bad habits are bad habits!), it would have lasted a good five hours on me (with some drinking and popcorn snacking). I hope that gives you an idea of their longevity.
That’s Save the Queen on me:
It’s a lovely mauve pink, isn’t it?
Despite the fact that, as far as matte lipsticks go, the Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment delivers on its promises, I couldn’t justify a purchase. My lips are dry and *any* matte lipstick feels in one way or another less comfortable than one with a more moisturising formulation. I have some lovely matte lipsticks (love my Charlotte Tilbury and Lancome ones for example) but I will not be adding to my matte lipstick collection any time soon. If your lips aren’t as dry as mine though, do check these new Nars matte lip pigments. It’s a well made product.
The Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment retails for £23 and is now available online in the official Nars website here and at all Nars counters.
Dior Addict Lip Tattoo
Moving onto the beautiful Dior Addict Lip Tattoo, this is such a unique concept of a liquid lipstick! I was *so* looking forward to trying it. You see, Dior promises that Lip Tattoos are so special because they are actual lip stains that don’t move from your lips, unless removed with oil make-up remover! Isn’t that amazing? I could then apply my lipstick in the morning before work and then trust it to stay put till I remove it in the evening. No need to reapply?! Well, I just had to check this out ladies, it sounded too good to miss..!
Similar to Nars, these are liquid in form and absolutely weightless. You cannot feel you’re wearing any lipstick really. However, their consistency is thinner and they apply sheerer. I think pigmentation could be better, especially for a lip stain, but at least all shades are buildable.
You can see four out of the six shades available in the swatches above. The finish of these is not totally matte. I’d say it’s more of a luminous matte once applied on the lips. I tried Natural Beige on my lips and it felt lovely, although it was opaque after two swipes. Dior promises a ten hour wear and I think this is right. I needed oil make up remover to get this off my lips five hours after application and the swatches wouldn’t fade off my hand easily either!!
Now, Natural Beige was more of a reddish brown on my lips?! Maybe that’s because my natural lip colour was picking through underneath. I liked it, but somehow wasn’t convinced enough to put one in my shopping bag. I went for the lovely, metallic red from the Metallics Collection instead and I think that was the right call for me.
You can check out the Dior Addict Lip Tattoo shade selection here and at all Dior counters. It retails for £25. What do you think about this product? Would you go for it? If Dior releases a few more interesting shades, I might get one in the future.
It’s been all about Liquid Lipsticks recently, hasn’t it? Have you heard that Charlotte Tilbury is launching a brand new, permanent, liquid lipstick line too? It’s mattes again, but I love her Matte Revolution line so much that I might make an exception in my don’t-buy-any-more-matte-lipsticks rule 😂. I love how I never change my mind 😂. If you’re interested in a preview, have a look at the official promo video here.
Your thoughts on liquid, matte lipsticks, whatever these are called?
Hope you have a lovely start of the week and speak again soon!
