Benefit They’re Real! Double the Lip and Duo Eyeshadow Blender

I’ve been wanting to write this review/swatches post since sometime now, but I wanted to try the new Benefit They’re Real! launches long enough to be able to form a solid view, as I haven’t tried many eyeshadow products from the brand before. Both the They’re Real! Double the Lip and They’re Real! Duo Eyeshadow Blender are such fun products, I’ve ended up using them for my day to day make-up looks quite a lot. Let’s have a closer look at both of them!

Benefit they’re real! Double the lip duo lipstick review & Swatches

The Benefit They’re Real! Double the Lip Duo lipsticks are meant to be a lip liner and lipstick in one. Their bullet is shaped like a teardrop, with the darker colour on the pointy end of it, so that we can line our lips and put on our lipstick in one swipe. Very clever and it works really well!

The lipsticks are creamy and long-lasting enough. If you’ve been reading this blog, you may remember my lips are dry with a tendency to get drier. Well, They’re Real! Double the Lip lipsticks work well for me. They last around 5 hours with drinking and nibbling and they feel comfortable to wear.

There are eight shades to choose from and I have swatched six of them for you here:

From left to right we have: Revved Up Red, Flame Game, Pink Thrills, Criminally Coral, Lusty Rose, Fuchsia Fever (horizontal shade). In my view, the darker part of the bullet isn’t dramatically different from the rest of it, which is great. The result we get with the one colour melting into the other is fabulous as there is enough definition across the lip line, without looking like there are two shades. Loving that!

The real innovation comes with the Benefit They’re Real! Duo Eyeshadow Blender though. The pan contains two shades, a darker one, meant to be a liner, and a lighter one, for all over the lid. There’s a soft, round sponge brush included, which, when you swipe across the two eyeshadows, gets as much product as you need to use on your eyes. Then you directly swipe it across your lids and voila! You’re ready! No need for tapping the excess off, blending or using two brushes!

Swipe across and done!

I have to be honest, I was initially more than just unimpressed with this innovation. And even today, I sometimes feel that I wanna grab a brush and blend more. However, when I’m on the go and rushing, when I don’t have more than a minute to create an eyelook, or when I’m at work and have an event afterwards, these Duos have proven to be invaluable! You can literally create a nude or smokey eye on the go in a second with these, even if you’re a beginner in make-up! And, of course, no one stops you from grabbing that brush and blending more if you so wish.

All shades are lovely… there are mattes and shimmers too. Here go the swatches:

And from top to bottom we have: Beyond Nude, Sexy Smoking and Naughty Neutral

The Benefit They’re Real! Duo Eyeshadow Blender shades are all equally well pigmented and I find that they last all day on top of primer. They lose intensity after the 7 hour mark, but that’s normal.

What might be a little tricky is placing the sponge back in the pan exactly at the same spot where you had it before, so that you don’t blend one shade into the other. I overcame that by wiping the extra eyeshadow off on a tissue after application.

I have two Double the Lip lipsticks and three Duo Eyeshadow Blenders to show you on my lips and eyes respectively. Let’s start with the eyes:

Brazen Bronze is quite light for my skintone, but a great everyday eyeshadow duo as it brightens my lid. And I love a bright lid on a day to day basis.

My foundation is the Tom Ford Foundation Stick (reviewed here), in both photos.

Final verdict!

These are such fun products. Do you need them? I have to say I have similar shades in my collection, but both the They’re Real Double the Lip lipsticks and Duo Eyeshadow Blender palettes provide a very fast and easy solution to everyday make-up. While they might not suit the detailed make-up artist, they would suit busy women and would make a great gift to everyone who is either a make-up beginner or simply, doesn’t enjoy the blending/ using a lot of products, but love being made up. Thumbs up for their practicality!

The Benefit They’re Real Eyeshadow Duos cost 19.50 GBP for 3.5 g while the Double the Lip lipsticks cost 16.50 GBP for 1.5g (not much, right?). You can check both products out and read some reviews here and here.

I hope you found this post helpful. Would you purchase any of these? Have a lovely rest of the week and speak again soon!

Hugs,

Eleni

  1. The Bombshell Brown on the eyes and Lusty Rose on the lips is such a nice combo, this pink shade is so pretty and perfect for every day! And Brazen Bronze is also gorgeous, I love a bright eye too!!

  2. Good to know that the lipstick worked for you! I have Pink Thrills but was unsure if it’s just another gimmick, definitely will give it a try tomorrow! The eyeshadow blender on the other hand is way too gimmicky, you’re lucky that the sponge fits your eyes but there is no way in hell it would fit mine. 🙁

  3. I’ve seen the lip products and love the idea of them, but am glad to hear they’re similar in shade as I thought it looked like they were a bit drastic. They look lovely on you!

I really like the concept behind the eyeshadows! I have similar colours in my collections but think they would be fab for times when I’m rushing.
