Hello everyone! Today’s post is a MAC Fruity Juicy Review of my picks from the brand’s Summer 2017 Collection. If you’re only interested in swatches, please have a look at the MAC Fruity Juicy Swatch Sunday post here. However, if you’re up for exploring the collection further, I’d love to take you through my experience of playing with it and show you my FOTDs! It’s all about that smokey eye, guys, all about that smokey eye!
eyeshadow palettes: Smoking Oh My Banana, love In The Glades
MAC released three different eyeshadow palettes for this collection and I couldn’t resist two. One of them I even had to buy sight unseen, because it is an online exclusive in the UK. But I can tell you: The MAC Oh my Banana Eyeshadow Palette is the better one of the three!
Oh My Banana is a quality palette and you can rely on it for some exotic eye looks. All eyeshadows are easy to blend, buttery soft and they don’t crease over primer. My only complaint is that silver glitter shade (second one in, in the picture above)… not sure why they included it? The glitter likes to migrate and won’t stick on my lid. Pointless. However, the rest of the palette is gorgeous.
I was intrigued by the shades included in the Oh My Banana Palette, however, I’m weak when it comes to eyeshadows that replicate the colours of the sea. And, in my view, Love in the Glades does exactly that.
Anyone getting the same images as I do? Pebbly beach and a green blue sea? This is a gorgeous palette and all shades perform well, apart from the glitter shade (third one in, in the photo). This one produces a bit of fall out. Nothing that can’t be easily fixed, but it’s there.
Fruity Juicy Cheeky cheek products
I picked up three cheek products from this collection and I love all of them. Starting with the MAC Baiana Bronzer, I can easily say that this shade works wonders on my skin. It lasts all day on my cheeks and it’s well pigmented. You can control its intensity as you wish, as it’s buildable. It’s quite a warm toned bronzer (pulls a little orange on me, but not in an unwelcome way) and, yes, it’s totally matte.
My favourite Fruity Juicy cheek item though is the Studio Sculpt Bronzing Powder in shade Delicates. I normally like a cooler toned bronzer (but a shade that is not ashy enough to be used as a contour. One that you can “bronzetour” with, if that makes sense?) and that is it!
There is also a beautiful blush in this collection. I almost had trouble putting my brush in there… the Fruity Juicy PearlMatte Face Powder is a work of art!
Depending on where you put your brush, you can achieve a more or a less bronzed look. I like to swirl my brush on the colourful part of this palette and then I get a soft rosy shade, fantastic for the apples of my cheeks. This limited edition PearlMatte Face Powder is illuminating, or can be if you focus your brush on the yellow flowers. The design is not going anywhere, even after a few uses, which is great!
And how about the MAC Fruity Juicy Lustre Drops? Well, Sun Rush is possibly the one highlighter than I will use this summer, I like it almost as much as the Marc Jacobs Coconut Highlighter (Dew Drops, reviewed here). It gives my cheeks some amazing golden glow but looks like skin and has no glitter whatsoever! This is a love for me.
The shy girl lipstick
The MAC Fruity Juicy Lipstick in Shy Girl is a soft beige peach nude on me. It brightens my lips and feels creamy and moisturising. It’s as long lasting as all other MAC lipsticks and I’m thankful its matte and therefore not drying at all. The packaging? As exotic as the rest of the collection!
limited edition coconut fix+ and the fruity juicy brushes
I got hold of the blush brush and I’ve been loving using it. The bristles are half real, half synthetic and feel so incredibly soft. The brush has a typical Fruity Juicy look:
As far as the Coconut Fix + is concerned, we all know what an amazing product it is in helping to bring our makeup together while at the same time giving is a splash of coconut!
My fruity juicy interpretation – fotds
It’s easy to create so many looks with these products! For me, the Eyeshadow palettes are great for colourful smokey eyes. A smokey eye looks great with some bronzer and a soft blush, doesn’t it? Oh, add a nude lip to all that. This is what I achieved with my picks from this collection
Look 1: “Blushed Mango” (or so i wanna call it 😉)
On my eyes I have the Oh My Banana Palette, on my cheeks the Baiana Bronzer and on my lips the Shy Girl lipstick. My highlighter is Lustre Drops in Sun Rush.
Look 2: “Seaside smurfette” (For clarity: The dark haired one 😂)
For the second look, I have the MAC Fruity Juicy Love in the Glades Eyeshadow Palette on my lids and the Studio Sculpt Powder in Delicates on my cheeks. My highlighter is Sun Rush Lustre Drops.
In both pictures, my blush is the PearlMatte Face Powder from the collection. I lightly dusted it on the apples of my cheeks for a soft rosy glow, than colour.
I hope you enjoyed this MAC Fruity Juicy Review. It’s a large collection, so I chose to split the swatches from my picks, but you can find all swatches here. You can check out the collection on MAC’s website. Some items are now sold out, but check out with your local MAC counter to check they don’t have any in stock.
Do you go for a smokey eye in the summer? If I’m honest, I rarely do, maybe when we go out in the evening. I generally prefer lighter makeup during the warmer months.
Thanks for reading guys! Have a great rest of the week and speak soon!
