Treat your skin to a splash of Marc Jacobs Coconut Collection freshness! Review and Swatches.

Introducing Coconut Perfection, Glowing Complexion …

You have no idea how excited I am! I’ve been waiting for the Marc Jacobs Coconut Collection to launch since the first time I saw its promotional pictures on Instagram! And, guys, it does not disappoint! It’s a beautiful collection from every aspect: concept, packaging, application and performance. The whole Marc Jacobs Coconut experience is a real treat and if you love the hydration and skincare benefits that coconut water offers, you will adore this collection. I couldn’t resist a single product, so here follows a detailed review of the entire Coconut Collection by Marc Jacobs Beauty: A) Coconut Gel Highlighter, B) O!Mega Bronze C) Coconut Setting Mist and D) Coconut Face Primer.

If you’re in the market for a golden peach/ champaign highlighter, look no further! This is a *beautiful* highlighter and I dare say it would look very good on most skin tones because of its peachy-golden tones. You can use it on top of your cheekbones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow to create a targeted luminous effect, or just mix it with your foundation or primer for an all over glow. This is not a primer substitute though. It’s a skincare-infused gel highlighter which will give you a customised glow.

A little goes a long way, so just a tiny drop is enough for the entirety of your face. Please, translate “glow” as luminosity. There is no visible glitter in this highlighter. However much you apply will depend on how much luminosity you wish to achieve. Still, the effect will always be “your skin but more radiant” rather than glittery and over the top.

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Highlighter is also good for your skin: it’s got five different forms of coconut and provitamin B to nourish and provide protection:
1. Coconut Alkanes – Help with long wear
2. Coconut Milk – Helps with hydration
3. Coconut Water – Provides Refreshing Electrolytes
4. Coconut Polysaccharides – Help condition
5. Coconut fragrance – Lightly scent (taken from here)

I’ve been wearing this highlighter for a few days now and I love it. The effect is wonderful on my cheekbones and it lasts all day. To add to that, the glow is exactly as impactful as I want it to be and I don’t have to use a lot of product to achieve that. I assume that this bottle will last me for ages (it’s 24ml)! However, I haven’t noticed my skin feeling different with this highlighter. I can testify for how amazing it looks, but I cannot say much about its skincare benefits, as yet. Saying that, it’s good to know that it contains protective and nourishing ingredients. As for the scent, it’s barely noticeable, so thumbs up there as well. It’s a wonderful highlighter in every aspect.

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Highlighter retails for £32 and 44USD. For those that are interested, here goes the ingredients’ list: Water, Mica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Glycerin, Tromethamine, Parfum/Fragrance, Lecithin, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Dimethiconol, Simethicone, Hexylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Disodium Edta, Tocopherol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Diisostearyl Malate, Butylene Glycol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Panthenol, Withania Somnifera Root Extract, Silica, Isostearyl Alcohol, Malic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Tin Oxide, Coumarin, Linalool, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491).

b) marc jacobs O!mega bronze COCOnut perfect tan (Tan tastic)

In anticipation of the beautiful summer days that await us all, Marc Jacobs Beauty brought a limited edition bronzer to us. The O!Mega Bronze in the shade Tan Tastic, compliments the rest of Coconut Collection, in that it brings warmth to your skin, like you’ve been gently sun-kissed. After you’ve highlighted with the Coconut Gel Highlighter, you can use Tan Tastic to bronze your cheekbones, face or body.

This bronzer is housed in glossy white packaging (as is the rest of the collection) and it’s actually massive in size. It’s the largest bronzer I own, yet one of the most sleek, as the container is quite thin. You get a generous 25gr of product in there, which will last you for a long time. This product is already a best seller and I’m not surprised.

Tan Tastic is a matte bronzer (thank you, Marc!). It’s buttery soft to touch and thus quite finely milled. It applies easily and blends into the skin in no time. My skin tone is solidly medium (Mac NC30, Bobbi Brown 4, Natural) and a bit of this bronzer on my cheek bones and around my face is enough to provide warmth. Because I like my bronzer a bit more intense at times, I tried to build this up. I was amazed to see how easily I could do so! Even when built up, the O!Mega Bronzer looks like it’s one with the skin and more radiant than solid matte.

The shade Tan Tastic of the Marc Jacobs Coconut Bronzer is quite golden in tone. On my skin it reminds me of my tan, so I can confidently say that it’s not peachy or orange at all. I’d say this bronzer can work well on light and medium skin tones. If you’re very deep in skin tone though, this probably won’t be right for you.

As mentioned, this is a limited edition bronzer. It retails for £35 and 49USD. There is another O!Mega Bronzer in the Marc Jacobs permanent line (Tantric), which is less golden and, in my view, leaning more warm brown than Tan Tastic. Unfortunately, I don’t have it, so couldn’t swatch it for you, but have a look at Temptalia’s swatch here and you can compare. The quality is equally good, however Tan Tastic was a gift sent from heaven for me as it’s perfect for my skin tone. I just love it and hope it becomes permanent!

c) marc jacobs coconut setting mist

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Perfecting Setting Mist is, thankfully, joining the permanent line! I’m honestly relieved! It’s very quickly become my favourite mist as I love how it both makes my skin baby soft and sets my make-up so well for the whole day.

Inside the long container you get 112ml of product. The mist is, as expected, quite thin and white in colour, to remind us of coconut milk. The spray is controlled and when you press it a small amount comes out, but honestly you don’t need a lot of product to successfully hydrate and set. For me, 4-5 sprays are enough for the entirety of my face. It’s a different thing if I just want to use this product more and more because I love how refreshing it feels on my skin!

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Face Mist is amazingly refreshing and sets your makeup for all day long!

To add to how amazingly the Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Mist feels and performs, it’s also packed with skincare benefits, such as coconut water and oils to nourish and lock moisture into the skin. I’m honestly very happy with this product. Here’s the list of ingredients for you to have a look:

Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water, Glycerin, Coconut Alkanes, Butylene Glycol, Squalane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propanediol, Polysorbate 20, Triethylhexanoin, Ppg-5-Ceteth-10 Phosphate, Glyceryl Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Trideceth-12, Sodium Hydroxide, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Sorbitan Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Juice, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Fragrance, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Cocamidopropyl Pg-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Phosphoric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Phenylpropanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Linalool.

The Re (Cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist retails for £25 and 39USD.

d) marc jacobs coconut face primer (under (cover) )

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer, Under (Cover)

I’m sure most of you will be familiar with the Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer! It’s exactly what it says: a coconut water based primer which nourishes and takes care of your skin whilst at the same time prepping it for make-up application. I’ve used it for more than a year now and it’s been my go to primer, sitting next to my Laura Mercier oil free one, when I want well-hydrated skin and I need something that I can trust will not make me oily during the day. It’s not a magnifying primer, but I love how it doesn’t make me oily. It’s never interfered with the rest of my skincare and it does feel nourishing on the skin.

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer is housed in a glass container and it comes with a pump, which is great for hygiene reasons. You only need a small pea sized amount for the entirety of your face, as it might be a light weight primer but it’s quite potent. It absorbs relatively fast and can be mixed with most foundations I have. I think, this would be a good primer for all skin types.

Similar to the Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Highlighter, the Coconut Primer contains the following five essential coconut ingredients to help prime and smooth skin:
“Coconut fruit: features skin-boosting vitamins and antioxidants
Coconut water: features nutrients for hydration and smoothing
Coconut milk: helps prime and smooth the complexion and blur imperfections
Coconut polysaccharides: help prime the complexion
Coconut extract: provides a natural coconut fragrance” (taken from here and here)

This product retails for £32 in the UK and 44USD in America.

conclusion and a look

As you can probably tell, I *love* the Marc Jacobs Coconut collection! It makes my skin feel nourished and helps my make-up last very well. The Coconut Gel Highlighter is all I’m looking for in a highlighter (just make sure you don’t use too much of it), the bronzer is divine and I really like the setting spray. The Coconut primer is an old favourite of mine, so I’m glad the coconut line expanded in the same quality way.

Here is a look I made using the Marc Jacobs Coconut Collection. I opted for something bronzy and highlighty:

For this look, I prepped my skin with the Coconut Primer and set my make-up with the Coconut Setting Mist. I’m wearing the Tan Tastic O!Mega Bronzer on my cheeks and crease of my eyes and the Coconut Gel Highlighter on my cheek bones, bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow. On my lids I have the gold, shimmery shade from the Nars Loaded Eyeshadow Palette (Versailles-reviewed here) and the Marc Jacobs Matte Highliner in Blacquer (MJ Highliners reviewed here). This make-up look took ten minutes and lasted a good 12 hours on me on a sunny day!

availability

The Marc Jacobs Coconut Collection is now exclusive to Harrods in the UK, in store and online. Of course, you can purchase the Coconut Primer online and in-store at your local Marc Jacobs counter (John Lewis and Harrods in London), but the rest of the collection is currently available only at Harrods. It will launch nationwide towards the end of April though. In the US, it’s already available online at Sephora and on the official Marc Jacobs website. Marc Jacobs Beauty say it will launch in stores on April 15th.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Are you eyeing any of this products? How do you feel about coconut infused make-up?

I hope you’re having a great weekend and speak to you again soon!

Hugs!

  1. This collection is going to be too dark for my skin tone but still I love the packaging, I’ll try to get a highlighter and face mist because they sounds great 🙂

  2. I finally have time to sit down and catch up on some blogs and yours is one of the first I quickly hop onto for this review! Haha! I really want the bronzer, highlighter and primer! I have never used a setting spray before so I want to try a drugstore version before purchasing high end so I will give that a miss for now. Great review!

    1. I’m sure you will enjoy all three! If I recall well, you like your base quite light and dewy from the onset right? In this case, you might not need the face mist. For me, it helps my make up look super natural and provides longevity, but if you’re after just the second some powder might just do the job :). Thanks for popping by xx
