Hello guys! I hope you’re all having a great weekend? Our weekend ended up being busy, but enjoyable. I don’t mind a busy weekend as long as a more quite one follows at some point! In any case, I’m now chilling with a cup of coffee and cookies that I brought with me from Greece, and writing to you. Have you checked out the MAC Work It Out collection at all? It launched a few days ago and it’s packed with vibrancy and colour for Spring 2017! The mascaras were of particular interest to me, as I love to wear coloured mascara in the summer, when the sun is out. Here are my picks and thoughts on them.
The MAC Work It Out collection consists of bright and colourful lipsticks, eye pencils, mascaras and cheek products. They all share the same happy vibe and intention to send away any greyness around us. It’s not your usual spring collection, with pastels and soft flowery colours.
Thinking about it, this year has been quite different for most brands anyway, hasn’t it? Chanel went bronze with dark, matte lips (reviewed here and here). Nars brought us bright colour; less full on than MAC, but certainly bright (reviewed here). Bobbi Brown is all coral, orange and pink (reviewed here)! Dior and Lancome chose a more expected route, I would say, introducing pastels and rosy hues for this Spring, but innovating elsewhere (e.g. the product formula and type). Interesting trends in make-up for sure.
Sticking to the MAC Work It Out collection, I decided to skip the lipsticks, eyeliners and all cheek products and focus on the mascaras. Somehow, not everything from this collection was calling my name. I was quite tempted by the Crystal Glaze glosses for cheeks, but, when I tried them on, they totally disappeared on mine. They also felt quite rich and sticky, so I avoided them in case they break me out. If you try these out and you think they’re great, please let me know. However, the mascaras… different story! I wanted to devour the stand where they had them ;)! You can find any colour you can possibly want, from conservative brown to bright white and yellow! Hell, yeah!
Even the packaging is so playful! Sigh… I’m so ready for playful colour and warm walks by the sea and cocktails and all… and here it’s raining! Anyway, not diverging! I really like the packaging in this collection. The mascaras I picked were the following ones:
Gym Dandy – a deep blue, great for brown eyes and medium to deep skin tones, I’d say
Squat It, Sugar – a sweet brown, more ordinary but cannot say no to brown and sugar!
Well-Toned – a bright plum, again I say great for brown eyes
ABS of Steel – a bright pink, the boldest option of the three and a real pop of colour on your lashes
Here are the swatches for these four mascaras:
As you can see, I didn’t go wild with the colours I picked. I could have gone for yellow, or even red! I do love me a pop of colour on the lids, especially with a bit of mascara or liner, but I don’t tend to go for the extreme colours. Saying that, this pink I got, is quite full on and I like it. I wear coloured mascaras in two ways: 1) Tips of my upper lashes 2) All over the lower lashes. And I combine colours as I like. Hence, I got the brown In Extreme Dimension, which I know is more of an ordinary colour, but I thought I could combine it with other colours nicely; plus, I didn’t have a brown mascara anyway. I did so yesterday and here are the results:
Luckily, we had a little bit of sun in the afternoon, so you can hopefully see the colour. I have Squat It, Sugar on my upper lashes and Well-Toned in my lower lashes towards the outer corner of the eye. I added ABS of Steel in my lower lashes towards my inner corner, for a pop of colour. These look lovely in the sun, but less intense indoors (unless light hits your eyes directly). Still, beautiful, if you like that sort of look.
I kept the rest of the eye simple with a bit of blue liner on my top lash line. Seeing as the top lash line was less intense than the lower one, it could take a bit more colour. This worked great combined with bronzy cheeks and a red lip. Here’s the full look:
I love the foundation I wore with this look – so natural. It’s one from Shiseido, I’m really liking combining it with lighter foundations or wearing it on its own. Beautiful and long-lasting. I’m planning a review on this, so won’t say more for now, but so far so good! The lipstick is also a surprise :).
At this stage, I’d like to add a few words about the actual In Extreme Dimension Mascara by MAC, colourful or not. You may know that my Holy Grail mascara, is the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir. However, the mascara I wore on my wedding day (yes, I did my own make-up) was the In Extreme Dimension by MAC in Intense Black (Waterproof). I didn’t want to wear false lashes for my wedding, as I never wear them in real life. After MANY trials with every single mascara on the planet, I decided to go with this one as it gave me such intense, separated lashes that people were thinking I had falses on. It gave me volume, separation, intensity and it’s super long lasting, more than Marc’s mascara. For my wedding, longevity mattered. In Extreme Dimension lasts forever on me and as such, it won the battle over Marc Jacobs.
I almost forgot! If there is something else you should check out from this collection is the Coconut Fix+. CO-CO-NUT. I want to eat it, or better drink it – seriously yummy! And it does everything Fix+ does normally. Check it out, it’s aaaaamazing! They also have rose and lavender scents, if you prefer florals.
The In Extreme Dimension Mascaras from the Work It Out collection are limited edition and selling fast here in the UK! Bear in mind, they’re not waterproof! So, any plans of wearing at the beach would only be ok, if you’re not planning to swim. They trade for £15.50, which is some ££ less than the black one in the permanent collection because they’re coloured, so it’s a win! You can find them on MAC’s website. Also, please check out Karen’s post, for a bolder look, that I personally can’t pull off in the city, but she’s totally rocking it and I’m loving it on her! That’s another option you have with these.
I hope you enjoyed this post. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen I’m trying out various things, so planning a few posts of new releases next week and also a couple of posts you have asked for will be on their way soon! Thanks for reading my lovelies and I hope you have a colourful Sunday and a beautiful start to your week!
