Hello my beauties! How’s life treating you all this fine weekend? London is deciding whether to snow or not, so it’s freezing cold and wet. Since the weather is far from the best, I will just ignore it and get on with my life, thinking about more pleasant things! Such as Valentine’s Day for example! And Valentine’s Day makeup! And, more specifically, Valentine’s makeup with Bobbi Brown products and the new Nars Soft matte Concealer!
For the purposes of this post, I mostly used Bobbi Brown Products, excluding the concealer which is the new Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer and the blush which is the Armani Sheer Fluid. I’m testing both and, so far, loving them. I will review the Nars concealer in a separate post next week, so stay tuned! You can also find a full list of products at the end of the post, if you’re interested, although you can definitely recreate this look or a similar one with any cosmetics you already have. The colours I used are classic and the look I went for is wearable but with impact, especially in the eyes. Sparkly caramel eyes, soft but luminous bronzy cheeks and nude lips, with a pop of sparkly blue liner! Here is the look in day light:
You can see this is totally wearable and can be great for both day and evening. There is quite a lot happening on the eyes, so I kept the rest of the face natural:
Desired effect and process: I opted for a light to medium coverage foundation which I sheered out with a buffing brush. Once the thin layer I applied became one with my skin, I covered a few newly acquired spots with a concealer. I then added some champagne liquid highlighter on the cheek bones, above my eyebrows, cupids bow and bridge of the nose. I blended all of that and then added a liquid blush in bronze colour, keeping the face luminous matte. There isn’t any glitter in the products that I used. This resulted in soft and natural looking skin with no imperfections. I did not powder at all, I didn’t need it. I sometimes find that if you work the right products well, not much powder is needed, if any at all. This makeup lasted all day.
Products used: Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation, Nars Soft Matte Concealer, Bobbi Brown Pearl Cream Highlighter (part of the Pearl Cream and Pink Flush Cheek Glow palette), Armani Fluid Sheer 10
Desired Effect and process: That’s where I played a bit more. I used a taupe-caramel eyeshadow on my eyelid and on top of that, I patted a glittery eyeshadow (copper, bronze glitter). Once I blended well, I applied a blue liquid eyeliner, with blue and purple glitter, along my upper and lower half lash lines. I, then, applied a brightening eyeshadow under my brow bone, for a lifting effect. I used a bronzy liner in the second half of my lower lash line and blended with the blue where they met. And voila! Sparkly, copper-bronze eyes with a pop of blue eyeliner! I applied two coats of mascara and, guys, I loved the result.
Products used: Bobbi Brown Long Wear Liquid Liner in Baltic Blue Sparkle, Bobbi Brown All Spice Sparkle Eyeshadow, Bobbi Brown Taupe eyeshadow, Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Gel Liner in Scotch, Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara Note: These Bobbi Brown Liquid Liners are amazing. And so easy to use!
Desired Effect: I used a nude matte lipstick; kept it simple but in harmony with the rest of the face and the caramel tones. I hydrated my lips beforehand.
Products used: Bobbi Brown Art Stick in Rich Nude
And that’s all I did really. The result looks softer in the pictures above, so I’m including a photo I took indoors which depicts the intensity of the makeup a bit better:
Soft, luminous skin with intense eyes and softly defined cheeks and lips is very much me. I’d totally wear something like this on a date, I love the caramel hues all over the face and the contrast with the blue liner. Of course, you can make this look even more intense by changing the lips for a darker brown lipstick or a statement pink; you can add more intensity to the eyes as well. Whatever takes your fancy, but for me this is great and as intense as I like it in real life. 🙂
And how about Valentine’s Day?! It’s a fun day! I’m no believer in celebrating love on one day a year and it kind of annoys me how everything gets so commercial and red all of a sudden (hence I resisted a RED lip, lol!). However, since it’s there I’m not going to boycott it, on the contrary, I’ll make the most of it and enjoy myself. I used to do so even as a single girl many moons ago, actually! These days, hubby and I do something every year, but not anything extravagant or too different from what we would do if there was a small occasion at a different point in the year. Saying that, I can completely appreciate that tons of people don’t like celebrating, full stop. This doesn’t mean you won’t wear makeup on the day, does it? I, therefore, hope you liked my personal take on “romantic” make up and maybe those that are looking for ideas for February 14th found this a little useful.
What is your take on romantic make-up?
Have a lovely weekend and speak to you soon!
