Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. Ours was fairly quiet, with a lovely meal out, a bit of dancing and I actually got round to making a cake which was delicious! I will post details about this later, but it was a mix of orange, vanilla and berries with cardamon… yum!! Now, let’s dive into the Nars Wildfire collection for Spring 2017!
Nars launched an amazing set of spring items a couple of weeks ago and I could not resist it for two reasons: 1- the colours are amazing (and not at all your usual spring pastels, yay!) 2- some of the items featured are named after Greek cities and islands *smiles widely*. How could I not check it out and grab a couple of things?! Oh, Nars, you know my soft spots!
Starting with the eyes, there are two beautiful eye palettes as part of the Nars Wildfire Collection, which I think would suit most eye colours and complexions. The colours are di-vi-ne and the quality top notch. I will start this review with the eye palette which was named after none other than one of the most historic and exciting Greek cities, the very city I was born in: Thessaloniki or, according to Nars (and in French): Thessalonique!
Thessalonique is a fun eyeshadow duo with a pearlescent pink – white highlight shade (the glitter in this one is so cute!) and a lilac – mauvy shimmery shade with complex glitter. Right up my street, as I really love such colours:
And couple of closer images, so you can enjoy the shimmer:
It’s not as obvious from the photos, but the white shade is actually so girly that I could happily say it has a unique place in my heart! It’s a gorgeous highlighting shade, adds dimension and brightness. Its pink glitter compliments the lilac shade really well. Depending on what look you are after, you can combine these shades or wear them individually, for different effects. The lilac – mauvy shade could be a bit more pigmented though. I like eyeshadows to be pigmented and on my NC30 skin, I had to layer this one quite a bit in order to show. I can tell you that if you want a soft, vibrant look, this palette is for you, but do not expect super-high impact or intensity, unless you layer the colours a lot.
And just as I was thinking that Thessalonique is the better duo of the two, I tried Chiang Mai on! OH. MY. GOD. The coppery brown shade is so delicious! Amazing on brown eyes, I bet it will look great on blue eyes too. Won-der-ful. The duo is complimented by a turquoise, sea – like colour. I simply love it when Nars does this: giving us unexpected and striking colour combinations. This palette reminded me of warm red sunsets and seas or bright rooftops and skies. I therefore googled Chiang Mai and found this:
Wow, right?! WOW! And the warm coppery brown tones with the blue are present in this palette. If Thessalonique is represents feminine, bright urban elegance, Chiang Mai is fire and water. I am utterly in love with this duo and can see me wearing this till I hit the pan!
I would like to point out here that Chiang Mai is a very pigmented palette. Both shades are shimmery and the shimmer is typical Nars shimmer, so adds exceptional dimension. Here are some photos:
Last but not least, I got the Siros shadow stick. This is a golden bronze. I can never miss a golden bronze. Or gold. Or just bronze. Again, I thought it to be fantastic on brown eyes. It made my eyes pop and lasted all day long without a primer. Siros is a Greek island in the Aegean sea, and I highly recommend you visit all islands in the Aegean! Siros is close to Mykonos; it’s less of a party island, but very cosmopolitan and with amazing architecture. I won’t even mention the beaches!
Here are swatches of Thessalonique, Chiang Mai and Siros (vertical to the other four):
And now onto a couple looks that I created:
And even if Chiang Mai impressed me more than Thessalonique, I am glad I did not need to choose in the end ;)! Here is a full look with Thessalonique, which is subtle and I love:
I paired Thessalonique with the Bobbi Brown cream blush and highlight duo in Desert Rose on both cheeks and lips (review coming up!). The pale rose hue matches Thessalonique so nicely and, for me, it creates perfect colour harmony for a soft look.
What do you think about the Nars Wildfire Collection and its sources of inspiration? I absolutely love it and it kind of smells of summer, doesn’t it? I gave priority to the eye products over the lips and cheeks, as I found them to be unique. You can enjoy more swatches here and check Karen’s post as well here.
Have you got any items from this collection or are you eyeing something? BTW – If you were to choose one of the glosses, which one would this be? I am eyeing Asphalt Jungle (update: When you eye something and you eventually get it is a win! Check out Asphalt Jungle here!)
Have a lovely week and I will speak to you soon!
